New York Weaviate Meetup - October

Details

Welcome and hello to our in-person Weaviate meetup! 🫶
We invite everyone who is interested in learning more about building data and AI applications as well as search and open-source vector databases in general.
Join us and network with other like-minded people in an open, inclusive and relaxed environment and meet our amazing weaviate Community.
We offer special technical talks and many ways to collaborate with us and others. Read below for more details!

Before and after the talks, we’ll have food and some time for socializing.
Note: The event starts at 6:00 PM EDT and runs until 9 PM EDT.

🦸‍♀️Some Pre Event Tips:

  • Join our Slack Community for events chat, speakers office hours , learning resources, and projects collaboration & networking.

🗓️ Agenda:

  • 6.00PM - Open Doors
  • 6.15 PM - Welcome with food, refreshments & networking
  • 7.00 PM - Talk 1 with Q&A (30min)

🎤Tech Talk 1: An introduction to multimodal applications with vector databases
Abstract: Many real-world problems are inherently multimodal, from the communicative modalities humans use such as spoken language and gestures to the force, proprioception, and visual sensors ubiquitous in robotics. In order for machine learning models to address these problems and interact more naturally and holistically with the world around them and ultimately be more general and powerful reasoning engines we need them to understand data across all of its corresponding image, video, text, audio, and tactile representations.
In this talk we will discuss how we can use open-source multimodal models, that can see, hear, read, and feel data(!), to perform cross-modal search(searching audio with images, videos with text etc.) at the billion-object scale with the help of open source vector databases. I will also demonstrate, with live code demos and large-scale datasets, how being able to perform this cross-modal retrieval in real-time can help users add natural search interfaces to their apps. This talk will revolve around how we scaled the usage of multimodal embedding models in production and how you can add cross-modal search into your apps.

🆒About the Speaker: Zain Hasan is a developer advocate at Weaviate with a background as an engineer and data scientist.

🎤Tech Talk 2: Orchestration in Retrieval-Augmented Generation
Abstract: RAG - Retrieval Augmented Generation - environments can help companies to accelerate the use of AI capabilities in the context of their own data.
In this session attendees will learn how the quality and relevance of their AI responses can be optimized in RAG frameworks including the Orkes Conducter.

🆒About the speaker: Olivier Poupeney, Head of DevRel, Orkes
Olivier manages Orkes's Developer Relations program for their developer communities. Olivier is an experienced DevRel leader with tons of knowledge about building open source strategies, managing developer contributions or creating deloper centric platforms. Olivier is co-author of a patented method of creating customizable applications.

🎤Tech Talk 3: Weaviate on OKD Jump-Start
Abstract: OKD is Red Hat's community distribution of Kubernetes optimized for rapid application development and deployment of containerized applications in a multi-tenant environment. During this session, Bob will demonstrate how the tools included with OKD can be used to deploy Weaviate server and develop client applications. Attendees with data science or developer backgrounds who want to get started with Weaviate on Kubernetes will benefit from this session.

🆒About the Speaker: Bob Kozdemba, RedHat
Bob is a Principal Specialist Solution Architect at Red Hat who helps building best of breed data science solutions on enterprise Kubernetes platforms. In his spare time he enjoys studying jazz and classical guitar.
